More than 300,000 Telegram users have expressed their support by signing a petition asking the French government to free Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of the messaging service, who was just arrested.

Through a Telegram mini-application, users can sign the petition. The company that created the TON blockchain, TON Society, released this app on Tuesday.

The letter from TON Society said, "The arrest of Durov is a direct attack on fundamental human rights, particularly the freedom of speech." The group denounced Durov's apprehension, which happened at a Paris airport over the weekend.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Paris Judicial Court said that Durov's detention was a result of a wider probe into cybercrime, which included claims that he was offering tools and services for "cryptography."

The group said to The Block, "TON Society is a community-driven organization focused on decentralizing the TON blockchain." We want to be clear that exercising one's right to free speech is not illegal. Pavel Durov has to be freed right away.

Over 300,000 Telegram users have signed a letter urging the release of recently detained Pavel Durov by French authorities.

Notable personalities in the cryptocurrency world, including Elon Musk, Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, and Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder of Solana, have all shown support for Durov.

With over a billion users globally, Telegram has not revealed the percentage of bot users.

Advocates for digital rights and the larger tech community are furious and concerned over Pavel Durov's incarceration. Many believe that this sets a concerning precedent for how tech innovators and leaders who support decentralized technologies and privacy will be treated. The quick mobilization of support emphasizes how high the stakes are, especially from the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries.

The growing conflict between governments and internet companies—particularly those that place a high priority on user privacy and data security—is further highlighted by this occurrence. The worldwide tech community is keeping a careful eye on the situation as it develops because they know that the result could have a significant impact on future digital rights and freedoms.
